Administering NetIM : Running virus scans on NetIM

Running virus scans on NetIM
You must exclude NetIM directories (the directory where the NetIM software is installed, the NetIM temporary directory, and the database data directory) from being scanned, if on-access virus scanning is enabled on NetIM.
On-access virus scanning of the NetIM directories (including the DSS data directory) severely impacts performance, may cause data corruption, and can interfere with correct operation of the NetIM software. If the database is on a remote host, you must also make sure that the database data directory is excluded from on-access scanning on that host.
Virus scanning of NetIM directories may be performed on a regular basis;, however, scanning of directories where NetIM software writes and manipulates files should not be performed during normal NetIM operation. Instead, conduct virus scanning of NetIM software and database data directories at a time when NetIM services are stopped.
When you update your virus scanning software, ensure that the latest definitions do not register a false positive for NetIM or Data Storage Server files. After each update, run a virus scan and verify that none of the NetIM files have been quarantined or deleted.
