Administering NetIM : IP Forwarding Table Collection

IP Forwarding Table Collection
NetIM supports collecting IP Forwarding Tables for use in NetPlanner studies. For configuring IP Forwarding Table Collection. IP Forwarding Table Collection supports the scheduled or on-demand CLI collection of IP forwarding tables from devices. The collection can be set up to be performed on a specific site or group or set of sites and groups.
By default, IP Forwarding Table Collection is inactive and should be started only if you own NetPlanner and require forwarding tables for your NetPlanner studies.
To access the IP Forwarding Table Collection, choose Configure > All Settings > Customize > IP Forwarding Table Collection.
From the IP Forwarding Table Collection page you can do the following:
Active—Set to Yes or No (default)
SCHEDULE—Set to Now (default), Later, or After Model Refresh is complete
GROUP—Set to All Elements (default) or Selected Group. Choose the Selected groups from the pull-down list.
Collecting the IP forwarding tables can create significant load on both NetIM and the devices on which you are collecting the forwarding tables. You should use extreme caution before enabling IP forwarding table collection.
Start with a small group and monitor for CPU spikes on the devices. You should avoid all internet-facing routers as their routing tables will be extremely large and impractical for performing NetPlanner studies. Plan and limit your scope of collection by using group-based collection and editing each device driver’s “IP Route (.iproute)” command to collect only a specific routing protocol or specific VRFs. Consider contracting with Riverbed Professional Services for guidance on best practices.
