Configuring Metric Alerting

Configuring Metric Alerting
Configure alerting to specify how to detect when device and interface metrics violate their expected thresholds and how to notify external systems when changes to those violations occur.
The configuration is carried out via alert profiles. Each alert profile is composed of one or more metrics to be monitored, specific thresholds (minor, major, and critical) for each metric, the devices to monitor, and the notification mechanisms to use when violation changes occur. Default alert profiles are provided for out-of-the-box alerting configuration. The Default alert profiles use the Default thresholds to specify the threshold values for many commonly used metrics. The values for the default thresholds can be fine-tuned on the Default Threshold configuration page.
You need to configure the notification mechanisms ahead of time so that they can be used by the alert profiles. The mechanisms are configured using the Alert Notification Wizard.
Maintenance windows can also be configured to mute all alerts for devices during specific time windows. Site suppression can be used to mute all alerts for a site’s devices if that site is determined to be down. Auto-baselining can be used to automatically determine the threshold values to use.
